This is for :iconsnapefanclub: contest "Snape's first spell"

According to JKR, Severus already knew a lot of spells and hexes when he arrived at Hogwarts.

I can see young Severus alone in the attic trying new spells. Hey, maybe he stole his dad's wand ;)

I wanted to draw something for this competition - but I just could not think of a decent enough 'first spell'. It was either going to be something Dark, or defensive. I like the early House affiliation symbolism, very nice. :) You have quite a bit of symbolism here; the light streaming in on one side, is behind Snape, and the serpent is before him, on the darker part of the image, and has his full attention... Any you have actually managed to take your lovely vision of an older Snape, and draw him as a child, with all the physical attributes that you give to the adult version, clearly visible. That takes real skill/talent.

Thanks *blushes* I like how you interpreted the shades and the snake. I was a little unsure about the spell too, so the snake felt appropriate to his persona. Now, his face, I was really afraid that he would look too old for the age I was aiming for. Glad you said that. It means, I accomplished it. :)
